Bluetooth hands-free car sets

Our customer contributed their expertise in speech recognition and hands-free speech technology. Stollmann contributed its Bluetooth stack and systems integration.

Since this product requires a TI DSP for speech recognition, noise reduction, and echo cancellation, the Bluetooth higher-layer stack was integrated there. This product has already passed Bluetooth qualification.

Infotainment system

Stollmann directs the hardware aspect of the project, including the testing software. This infotainment system includes radio, the hands-free system, the steering wheel control (via CAN), speech generation, speech recognition, CD players, and navigation.

Fleet management

BlueRS+ is a serial Bluetooth adapter that is easy to integrate and excellently suited for integration into embedded systems. The remote station can be a serial Bluetooth adapter such as BlueRS+, but also other devices featuring a Bluetooth interface, such as PDAs or PCs. The Bluetooth profile used is the Serial Port profile (SPP), which is transparent for the application data and can therefore be used for practically all serial applications.

Bluetooth trailer data

The data generated during the testing phase are transmitted via Bluetooth technology. Stollmann is responsible for furnishing the Bluetooth technology.

Stollmann initiated the standardization of the Bluetooth Embedded Control Interface (BECI) and currently chairs the Bluetooth SIG BECI Working Group created for this purpose. The objective is to standardize an integration interface for embedded systems at the level above the Bluetooth profiles that would allow application programmers to develop Bluetooth application software independently of the Bluetooth protocol stack and chipset used. BECI will thus make an important contribution toward further dissemination of Bluetooth technology in industrial, automotive, and medical applications.

This is a significant opportunity for the automotive industry, in particular. Our aim with BECI is to provide application developers with an interface that will make it extremely easy to integrate Bluetooth into embedded systems.
